Black Holes
A black hole is a place in space where gravity is so incredibly strong that nothing โ not even light โ can escape once it gets too close. Some black holes form when a massive star runs out of fuel and collapses in on itself.
โก Fun Fact:The boundary around a black hole is called the event horizon. Once something crosses the event horizon, it cannot escape โ but far outside the event horizon, gravity works just like it does around any other massive object.
Black holes don't fly around sucking up everything nearby like a vacuum cleaner! Just like planets orbit the Sun, stars and gas can safely orbit a black hole from a distance, as long as they stay outside the event horizon.
๐ก Tip:Scientists can't see a black hole directly, since no light can come from inside it. Instead, they study how nearby stars and gas move and glow as they orbit a black hole, which reveals that something incredibly massive and dark is there.
