What is Light?

Beginner

Light is a form of energy that lets us see the world around us. Without light, everything would be pitch black! Light comes from sources โ€” some are natural, and some are made by people.

๐Ÿ“ Example:Natural sources of light include the Sun, stars, and fire. Artificial (human-made) sources include light bulbs, flashlights, and phone screens.

โšก Fun Fact:The Sun is Earth's main natural source of light. Almost all the light we see during the day โ€” even light bouncing off the Moon at night โ€” starts out as sunlight!

Light travels in straight lines, and it moves incredibly fast โ€” about 300,000 kilometers every second! That's fast enough to travel around the entire Earth 7 times in just one second.

The light we can see is called visible light. It's actually made of every color mixed together โ€” red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. That's why a prism or a rainbow can split white light into all its colors!
