Reflection happens when light hits a surface and bounces off it, instead of passing through. This is how we see ourselves in a mirror!

Smooth surfaces (like mirrors, calm water, or polished metal) reflect light in a neat, organized way, so you see a clear reflection. Rough surfaces (like a piece of paper or a brick wall) scatter light in many directions, so you don't see a clear picture โ just the surface's color.
